The LSU defense, tops in the SEC, pitched their first shutout of the season…

“It was pretty big. I can’t remember the last time we had a shutout around here. It meant a lot to us. We are at the top of the conference right now. If we wanted to stay there we knew we had to go and get some of those yards we gave away in previous games like Auburn; we had to get those yards back.”

“We had a mindset to come out and be dominant. I believe that’s what we did.”

Auburn captured the SEC Western Division, but the Tigers still have a shot at a BCS at-large bid…

“We have everything to play for. If we win out we are almost guaranteed a BCS game. We can only control what we can control. Hats off to the other teams that got done what they needed to get done.”

Less-heralded names like Lavar Edwards and Ron Brooks stepped up big for the defense on Saturday night…

“Those are guys that can make those kinds of plays. Tonight so happened to be there night. When the opportunity presented itself, they were ready for it. That came from preparation.”

Thanks to injuries to starters like Mo Claiborne and Brandon Taylor, names like Eric Reid, Craig Loston and Brooks stepped into the spotlight…

“I think they stepped up and played good. I don’t know for sure. I wasn’t watching them. I have to go back and watch the film. All in all we had a shutout, so they had to play okay. We will go evaluate the film and get ready for Ole Miss next week.”

ULM threw some new wrinkles at LSU, but it was nothing that Chavis and Co. couldn’t handle…

“We knew they would come out in five-wide, but we didn’t know about the Wildcat deal they tried to do. With coach Chavis, we have a great defensive coordinator so we adjusted on the run and made it happen.”

Five turnovers tied the season-high for the LSU defense…

“I don’t even know how many we had, I just know we had a lot. Mississippi State I think we had five. It was a great, dominant outing. It was what we set out to do, and we got it done.”
