LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson and other players are on the BRPD radar for their involvement in a bar fight early Friday morning.

LSU quarterback Jordan Jefferson has been “implicated as being involved” in a fight outside of Shady’s Bar early Friday morning.

Sgt. Don Stone of the Baton Rouge Police Department media relations office confirmed that there was an incident at Shady’s sometime around 2 a.m. Friday and that witnesses identified Jefferson as being involved as well as several other unidentified Tigers players.

Stone said the ongoing investigation has not revealed yet whether Jefferson or any teammates are suspects or victims in a skirmish that sent four non-football players to local hospitals. Those four were checked out and released.

As of 5:22 p.m. Friday, no arrests have been made and no charges have been levied.

That doesn’t mean this is going away quietly, though.

“Our investigators are out there and will be until they get to the bottom of this,” Stone said. “They’re riding around and talking to witnesses and victims.

Asked if the manpower and time involved the BRPD has devoted to this investigation are signs that charges are likely to be forthcoming, Stone said “If the probable cause is there, yes. If the investigators finish their investigation and find cause to make an arrest, that’s what they’ll do.

“We’ve got four people who went to the hospital because they sustained injuries from being involved in a fight. So we know someone battered somebody.”

The four people taken for medical care can still ask the BRPD to not press charges at any time, but Stone said that doesn’t seem to be likely.

“These individuals can say ‘I gave him permission to hit me and I don’t want to pursue these charges.’ But the four people involved are being very cooperative and are indicating they want us to press charges.”

Tigers coach Les Miles was alerted to the situation and held an unscheduled team meeting Friday afternoon to address the situation.

Miles was unavailable for comment but issued a statement through the media relations department.

“We are aware of the incident that took place at an off-campus location at which some of our players were present,” Miles said in the statement. “We don’t know to what extent our players were involved.  We are trying to gather as much information as possible to get a better understanding of what exactly took place (Friday morning).”

Stone said that there was not a vehicular assault involved as has been rumored.

Shady’s parking lot surveillance equipment did not record the incident, but Stone said there is a “very good chance” some nearby businesses might have cameras that recorded the fight.

As of late Friday afternoon, Jefferson had not interviewed with the BRPD, although Stone said that remains a strong possibility.
