Mathieu era over at LSU

On Tuesday, Tyran Mathieu spoke of Heismans, Championships and becoming a better player. On Friday, the reigning SEC defensive player of the year was unexpectedly dismissed from the LSU football program by head coach Les Miles.

"I am looking forward to getting those young guys prepared to play," said Mathieu at Media day. "I am just looking forward to having a great run this year."

That run will not take place in the Purple and Gold of the LSU Tigers.

Mathieu had been off limits to the media prior to Tuesday's media event. The talented defensive back reported that he was not sure why he had been held out of post practice interviews and said, "I just go with whatever coach wants to do."

Called "a quality guy who had a behavior issue," by LSU head football coach Les Miles during today's press conference, Mathieu has been no stranger to controversy or discipline while at LSU.

The Heisman finalist was suspended last fall for the Auburn game following an off the field indiscretion.

Mathieu also took part in a war or words on twitter with Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron prior to the BCS National Championship game.

Earlier this year, Mathieu was the subject of media scrutiny after he proclaimed himself to be the nation's best defensive player in one of his tweets.

On Tuesday, Mathieu discussed his plans to take a lower profile when it comes to social media.

"I am working on my twittering," said Mathieu with a smile. "It's tough some times. I am just trying to be the best person I can be and not really let twitter distract me."

Now Mathieu is the topic of the day on twitter, talk radio and sports stations around the country for all of the wrong reasons.

The New Orleans native hinted that the college football world may see a more mature version of the Honey Badger this fall.

"I am blessed and I just need to remain humble and look to my teammates whenever I am feeling down," said Mathieu. "I just want to do all I can to help my team win."

Now one of college football's most talented and flamboyant players will have to find a new team and a new group of teammates to win with.
