Pat's Picks: SEC Championship And Other Games

Coach Pat Dye

College Football Hall of Fame coach picks this week's winners and losers on the collegiate scene.

Georgia vs. Alabama should be an outstanding game on Saturday in Atlanta to determine the SEC champion. In my opinion these are the best two teams in the country even though Notre Dame is currently ranked No. 1 in the polls and the BCS standings.

Georgia and Alabama are two similar football teams this season. The first thing that stands out to me is they have great talent on both sides of the football. Both have junior quarterbacks who are playing very well and are ranked one-two nationally in passing efficiency.

I would say that on the defensive side Alabama is a little more methodical than Georgia. They are just are not going to make many mistakes. They are going to stop the run and make their opponent throw the football.

That means that Georgia's quarterback, Aaron Murray, is going to have to execute in the passing game. I think it is that simple. If Murray does that, I think Georgia will win this game.

The Bulldogs have a lot of talent on defense with a lot of guys who can make big plays. They have been playing well the last half of the season with their key players back from suspensions.

I think this should be a good game for college football fans around the country to watch. It is a game that is tough to call, but I like Georgia to win a close one.

In other games:

UCLA at Stanford--I think Stanford will beat the Bruins again to win the Pac-12 title. I just think Stanford is better. Stanford is one of those teams that isn't flashy, but has the ability to impose its will on the opponent. The defensive front is really impressive and is up there with the best teams in the country like Notre Dame, Alabama and Georgia.

Oklahoma at TCU--TCU looked good in knocking off Texas so I am going to pick those guys to beat an Oklahoma team that has not been as good as I expected.

Oklahoma State at Baylor--This will be a shootout. I think Oklahoma State is the better team, but I am going to pick Baylor because it is going to take the Cowboys a while to get over that tough loss they had against Oklahoma.

Texas at Kansas State--Playing at home I think Kansas State should be able to bounce back from that surprising loss to Baylor.

FSU vs. Georgia Tech--The ACC Championship Game isn't exactly a dream matchup for the league. Both teams are badly beat up. This has the potential to be a high-scoring affair, which the Seminoles should win.

Nebraska vs. Wisconsin--The Big 10 Championship Game isn't a dream matchup either with the Badgers just 4-4 in the league. Nebraska has two losses and I don't think the Badgers are the team to give the Cornhuskers their third loss.

Northern Illinois vs. Kent State--The MAC Championship Game looks like an excellent matchup. These are two well coached teams. Both are 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference. This looks like a tossup and I am going with Northern Illinois.

Editor's Note: Coach Dye was 8-1 on his week 13 SEC picks and 13-5 overall. For the season his record is 90-21 on SEC games and 144-41 overall.
