The top cornerback prospect in the state of Louisiana has chosen to play his college football out of state. Archbishop Shaw's Sammy Joseph has verbally committed to the University of Colorado, where his older brother Vance played quarterback in the early 1990s.

Joseph (6-0, 174) told Tiger Rag that his family ties to the school in Boulder, Colo., had nothing to do with his decision. Vance was a back-up when the Buffaloes won their national title in 1991.

"It just seemed like a good place to play football," he said. "The city was really nice and so were the people. I wanted to get this decision out of the way so I wouldn't be dealing with it and all the phone calls during my senior year."

Other schools recruiting Joseph include LSU, Florida, Southern California and Kansas State.

Joseph attended the last session of Nick Saban's summer camp at LSU and reported a very positive experience, and he told Tiger Rag there was nothing negative about LSU that led him to choose another school.

"LSU in the next few years is going to be a great program - with or without me," Joseph added.
