LSU falls at Auburn 68-63

After taking a lead into halftime on the Plains, LSU dug a second-half hole and couldn't climb back out. Andre Stringer (pictured) scored 13 in LSU's loss in the conference opener.

Johnny Jones' LSU team brought a 28-27 lead into the locker room at halftime of the team's conference opener in Auburn Arena Wednesday night.

But the home Tigers exited intermission a different team, using a 24-7 run early in the second stanza to put LSU in the rearview and coast to a 68-63 win.

Auburn (7-7, 1-0) got 15 points from forward Allen Payne and only 10 from senior guard Frankie Sullivan, the War Eagles' leading scorer and the second leading point-getter in the SEC.

LSU (9-3, 0-1) was led by Charles Carmouche, who scored 15 points (although 11 came in garbage time in the final 90 seconds to narrow the insurmountable lead). Anthony Hickey, back in the starting lineup for an injured Corban Collins, and Andre Stringer chipped in 13 points apiece in the backcourt.

Shavon Coleman, LSU's leading scorer coming into the game, posted a season-low four points.

Jones' Tigers will be back in action Saturday when No. 11 Florida invades the PMAC.
