Catching up with Nico Johnson

Linebacker Nico Johnson is back from the NFL Combine and attended the Iron Bowl Trophy presentation at halftime of the Alabama-Auburn basketball game Tuesday. Afterwards, he took some time to update reporters on his draft preparation.

After Alabama was presented with the ODK Foy Sportsmanship Trophy Tuesday night, which is given annually to the winner of the Iron Bowl, linebacker Nico Johnson, who just got back from the NFL Scouting Combine, took a few minutes to chat with reporters.

Johnson, who recently had sports hernia surgery, did not workout at the combine, but did interview with plenty of NFL teams. He said he hopes to be healthy enough to compete at Alabama's Pro Day on March 13.

Johnson said he played with a sports hernia, which are small muscle tears caused by overuse during strenuous sports activity, all season. He said he's being training at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. and is getting healthy.

Johnson was excited to be back in Tuscaloosa for the trophy presentation.

"There are a lot of players that come through Alabama and don't go 3-1 against Auburn," he said. "To get the chance to see that trophy three out of four years is something special. Especially an in-state rivalry. It means a lot."
