SEC Baseball Poll: Week 3
1) Vanderbilt (2)
This weekend: At #16 Oregon
The Commodores added some wins over the weekend and throughout this week by sweeping Illinois-Chicago and defeating Eastern Illinois in a midweek game. Vanderbilt will get their first true test of the season this weekend as they head to Eugene to take on #16 Oregon. Things will become a lot clearer for Vanderbilt after this weekend.
2) Mississippi State (3)
This weekend: Home vs. Central Arkansas
Mississippi State is easily the hottest team in the SEC to start the 2013 season. They kept their winning ways up over the last week by sweeping St. Josephs and defeating Mississippi Valley State. The Bulldogs are sure to add a few more victories to their total this weekend against Central Arkansas, their final series before SEC play begins.
3) South Carolina (6)
This weekend: Home vs. Rider
South Carolina got their first test of 2013 over the weekend when they played Clemson. They were able to take two out of three from the Tigers, in addition to beating Ball State twice in midweek games. On the final weekend before SEC play begins, the Gamecocks will look to work out any kinks as Rider is coming to town.
4) Ole Miss (7)
This weekend: Home vs. Lipscomb
Ole Miss had a hot week in week three. The Rebels won five games as they swept Florida International and took two more from Southeastern Louisiana. This weekend, Lipscomb heads to Oxford in what should be a good tune up weekend for the Rebels.
5) LSU (8)
This weekend: Home vs. Washington
LSU added five victories over the last week. The Tigers took two from Brown and one from Nicholls State over the weekend. During midweek games, the Tigers defeated Stephen F. Austin and Sacred Heart to improve to 12-1. The biggest non-conference opponent of 2013, Washington, will travel to Baton Rouge this weekend to see what kind of test they can provide to LSU before SEC play begins.
6) Kentucky (11)
This weekend: Home vs. Michigan State
Kentucky was able to add to their win column over the weekend as they swept Akron. They also defeated Xavier in a midweek game. The Spartans of Michigan State will travel to Lexington this weekend in what should be a great test for the Wildcats.
7) Arkansas (16)
This weekend: Home vs. San Diego State
Arkansas had a rouge weekend trip to Arizona. The Razorbacks were defeated twice by Arizona State and once each by Gonzaga and Pacific to cap off their 4-game losing streak. They will look to right the ship this weekend at home against San Diego State in what should be a very competitive weekend.
This weekend: At #5 Louisville
Alabama had a rough set of games in week three. The Crimson Tide lost two out of three to the Green Wave of Tulane. They also suffered their first SEC loss of 2013 to Auburn in a mid week game. Things won't get any easier for Alabama this week as they will travel to play #5 Louisville.
This weekend: Home vs. Brown
Auburn went 3-1 in week three. They took two out of three from Eastern Illinois and beat Alabama during a midweek game to claim their first SEC victory. Brown will travel to Auburn this weekend for a series that should be a good tune up for the Tigers heading into SEC play.
10) Texas A&M
This weekend: At #18 Cal State Fullerton
Texas A&M played some stiff competition in week three. Houston and #1 North Carolina defeated the Aggies over the weekend. However, they were able to scratch out victories against #13 Rice and Prairie View A&M to go .500 for the week. The Aggies will now travel to #18 Cal State Fullerton this weekend as they continue their stretch of tough non-conference opponents prior to SEC play beginning.
This weekend: Home vs. Indiana
Florida got back on track over the weekend by taking two out of three from Miami (FL) and defeating Jacksonville twice to get their record back to .500. It was a welcome sight for the Gators after a shaky start to 2013. Indiana will now travel to Gainesville for a series that Florida will look to take early.
This weekend: Home vs. Liberty
Georgia had a great weekend in week three. The Bulldogs swept UAB in a three game series, but followed that up with a midweek loss to Western Carolina. Georgia will look to improve their record even more this weekend when Liberty travels to Athens for a three game set.
This weekend: Home vs. Alcorn State
The Volunteers did not fare very well week three as they were defeated by Notre Dame and Virginia Tech. They did claim one victory against UMass, but they haven't been able to find consistency so far in 2013. They will look to even their record this weekend when Alcorn State travels to Knoxville for a three game series.
This weekend: Home vs. San Francisco
Missouri was scheduled to host Northwestern in a three game series over the weekend. However, weather forced a cancellation of the games. The Tigers were able to get their first victories of 2013 over Eastern Michigan during the week. The Tigers will attempt to continue their improvement this weekend when they take on San Francisco at home.
