This weekend's series against Texas A&M will have a different feel for LSU sophomore LHP Cody Glenn due to past connections with the Aggies. Glenn discusses that and the new mentality that he will be taking to the mound with him.

For LSU sophomore left-hander Cody Glenn this weekend’s series against Texas A&M will be a little bit different than his previous starts. Before he ever arrived at LSU, the 6-4 195 pound Glenn had a long history with the Aggies. He was heavily recruited by their coaching staff and was on the verge of committing to the school before his visit to LSU.

Glenn starred at Westbury Christian High School in the Houston area, so there was an aspect of proximity to home that attracted Glenn to Texas A&M. Glenn, who owns a record of 5-1 with a 2.93 ERA in 2013, admitted that not even Paul Mainieri knows how close he was to signing with Texas A&M.

“It’s actually a funny story and I’m not sure that coach Mainieri knows about this,” said Glenn. “On my way to visit LSU, I already had my mind made up that I was going to commit to Texas A&M. After the LSU visit, I just knew that this was a better fit for me.”

Even though Glenn thought he had his mind made up about where he wanted to play college baseball, one visit to LSU changed things for him.

“I thought I was sure of where I wanted to be, but I was young,” said Glenn. “I wanted to explore all of my options and I’m thankful that I did because I fell in love with this place.”

With LSU traveling to take on the Aggies in College Station, Tx., this weekend, Glenn will get an opportunity to play against some of his closest friends from high school.

“I have a few friends that play for A&M,” said Glenn. “I’m friends with several of their pitchers and I’m really excited to pitch against them this weekend.”

The proximity to his home in Texas will also give his family and friends a chance to travel to see Glenn open the series against the Aggies on Thursday night.

“I definitely hope all of my family makes it out this weekend,” said Glenn. “I think I’ll have a nice little fan base out there.”

Regardless of his past connections with Texas A&M, Glenn is looking forward to getting the weekend started with a victory for LSU to set up the other two games for his fellow rotation members.

“It’s a great opportunity to give [Aaron] Nola and [Ryan] Eades a full week’s rest,” said Glenn. “It’s also great to be able to start a weekend off. I’m taking full advantage of it before Nola steals the spotlight back. I’m just having fun.”

After being LSU’s Sunday starter for a majority of the SEC schedule, Glenn made the move to Thursdays in last weekend’s series against Florida. Glenn feels as though the move will be very beneficial for him once postseason play begins for the Tigers.

“Being the first to face a team is different than being the third guy to face a team,” said Glenn. “That’s how it will be in the tournament so I’m just trying to get myself ready now.”

Glenn was the one member of the LSU rotation that got off to a bit of a slow start when he was roughed up in starts against Mississippi State and Missouri earlier this season. Over the last couple of months, Glenn has had an opportunity to discover his problem and get it fixed, something that he feels that he has done well.

“When I struggled on those away trips, I didn’t trust my pitches,” said Glenn. “I’ve been focused on trusting my two-seam fastball and throwing my changeup with conviction. That has really helped me.”

“I’m pitching with a lot of confidence right now. I’m able to trust all of my pitches right now and I feel confident that I can keep guys off balance with those three pitches.”

Glenn is also no longer the type of pitcher that gets rattled when he allows a hit.

“I’ve had to learn that I can’t be afraid of the bats if I give up a hard base hit,” said Glenn. “I feel like I have reached a good point with my mentality in that area.”
