Laird out with ankle injury

Freshman OF Mark Laird missed Saturday's game against Arkansas, and is out for the SEC Tournament Championship Game with a sprained ankle.

HOOVER, Ala.Mark Laird suffered a left ankle sprain before the start of Saturday's contest with Arkansas.

He sustained the injury during batting practice, running a ball down in the outfield. LSU coach Paul Mainieri said Laird underwent an X-ray, and results were negative. Mainieri said Laird will likely undergo a MRI when the team returns to Baton Rouge on Monday.

Laird will likely miss the SEC Tournament Championship Game on Sunday, but Mainieri was hesitant to say how long the injury would sideline him. With Laird out, Andrew Stevenson and Jared Foster manned the outfield in his place.

Should the injury keep Laird out for the NCAA Tournament, it's possible players like Chris Sciambra or Sean McMullen could step into the outfield as well.
