All summer long TSD will unveil our top 50 LSU players for the 2013 season. The list was compiled by TSD's Ben Love, Austin Cooper and Hunter Paniagua. Today marks the first running back to come off the board - No. 44, Terrence Magee.

Publisher’s Notes: Every weekday until the LSU football team reports for Fall Camp on Sunday, Aug. 4, TSD will unveil another player in our top 50 Tigers for the 2013 season. We arrived at this list by combining individual rankings from TSD’s Austin Cooper, Ben Love and Hunter Paniagua. For example, a player who received a No. 1 vote got 50 points, a No. 2 vote got 49 points, and so on. Every player who received votes had his points totaled across all three individual lists, and the result was our final TSD ranking. All players, including incoming signees, were eligible for selection.

No. 44 – RB Terrence Magee

All four of LSU’s talented running backs will appear on TSD’s top 50 list, and junior Terrence Magee is the first to come off the board. He originally began his Tiger career in the backfield, staking claim to mop-up duty as a true freshman in LSU’s steamroller season of 2011, before moving out to wide receiver as a sophomore in 2012 to shore up a position low on numbers. Now, with more receivers entering the program and two backs from last season in the NFL, Magee is back to tailback.

There are many projecting that 2013 will be Magee’s breakout season in an LSU uniform. He began showing why this spring, impressing not only with the ball in his hands but in catching the ball out of the backfield and protecting the quarterback in pass-protection drills. He may still be buried behind two or three talented rushers on the depth chart, but Magee’s skill set is arguably the most diverse of Frank Wilson’s four options at the position. He’ll be hard to keep off the field this fall.

By The Numbers

Magee’s highest ranking: 40th
Magee’s lowest ranking: Not Ranked

Why this ranking is too high

Last season Magee had only one carry for no gain, and, for his career, the Franklinton native has totaled just 133 yards on 28 carries. So suffice it to say that he’s nowhere near the most experienced back returning to the fold for LSU. In fact, considering his backfield mates are Alfred Blue, Jeremy Hill and Kenny Hilliard, he’s far and away the least experienced and productive of the Tigers’ running back stable coming into 2013.

Why this ranking is too low

Magee is a fantastic athlete who just might be hitting his stride with new coordinator Cam Cameron in town. The former high school quarterback has transitioned seamlessly to wherever the Tigers have needed him, be it running back or receiver. He showed in the spring that he brings not only running ability, but route-running, pass-catching and pass-blocking skills to the table. An asset that valuable and versatile is unlikely to go to waste in Cameron’s offense.
