All summer long TSD will unveil our top 50 LSU football players for the 2013 season. TSD's Ben Love, Austin Cooper and Hunter Paniagua compiled the rankings. Today, coming in at number 30, is senior receiver Kadron Boone.

Publisher’s Notes: Every weekday until the LSU football team reports for Fall Camp on Sunday, Aug. 4, TSD will unveil another player in our top 50 Tigers for the 2013 season. We arrived at this list by combining individual rankings from TSD’s Austin Cooper, Ben Love and Hunter Paniagua. For example, a player who received a No. 1 vote got 50 points, a No. 2 vote got 49 points, and so on. Every player who received votes had his points totaled across all three individual lists, and the result was our final TSD ranking. All players, including incoming signees, were eligible for selection.

No. 30 – WR Kadron Boone

In a fairly quiet fashion, Kadron Boone assumed the role as LSU’s starting X-receiver in 2012 and became Zach Mettenberger’s third-favorite target. That season, as a junior, Boone amassed 26 catches (third on the team) for 348 yards (third) and four touchdowns (second). He slid into a starting spot originally slated for James Wright, who was dealing with a shoulder injury, and Boone never relinquished it, proving he could make the big play. None were bigger than his 29-yard over-the-shoulder TD grab in College Station, a score which stood up to make the difference in a five-point LSU win.

Boone enters this fall as one of the Tigers’ experienced playmakers in the receiving corps. He will have increased competition with the likes of Quantavius Leslie joining the team and redshirt freshman Travin Dural returning from injury, but it wouldn’t be wise to count the senior out when talking about difference makers on the perimeter. As for where he stands in TSD’s top 50 countdown, Boone is the fifth-highest ranked receiver of six to make the list (Wright came in at No. 48).

By The Numbers

Boone’s highest ranking: 26th
Boone’s lowest ranking: 31st

Why this ranking is too high

LSU isn’t exactly known as a passing powerhouse in the collegiate game, and Boone is deemed only the fifth-best receiver on the team, according to our rankings. That factor alone could bring his value in comparison to players at other positions into question. Plus, Boone doesn’t have the prototypical size to remain at the X position, standing at only 6-foot tall.

Why this ranking is too low

Despite his height and despite LSU’s struggles in the passing game, Boone stepped up and delivered when the Tigers needed him in 2012. He’s LSU’s best and most proven wide receiver outside of the top two of Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. Boone also is a very polished route runner and brings a number of skills to the table that will make him hard to ignore when the Tigers need personnel to fill out four- and five-receiver sets.
