All summer long TSD will unveil our top 50 LSU football players for the 2013 season. TSD's Ben Love, Austin Cooper and Hunter Paniagua compiled the rankings. Today the final fresh face comes off the board for the Tigers in CB Tre'Davious White.

Publisher’s Notes: Every weekday until the LSU football team reports for Fall Camp on Sunday, Aug. 4, TSD will unveil another player in our top 50 Tigers for the 2013 season. We arrived at this list by combining individual rankings from TSD’s Austin Cooper, Ben Love and Hunter Paniagua. For example, a player who received a No. 1 vote got 50 points, a No. 2 vote got 49 points, and so on. Every player who received votes had his points totaled across all three individual lists, and the result was our final TSD ranking. All players, including incoming signees, were eligible for selection.

No. 21 – CB Tre’Davious White

The last true freshman standing in TSD’s top 50 countdown, cornerback Tre’Davious White (5-foot-10, 170 pounds) comes in at number 21. The Shreveport native and cousin of former LSU corner Mo Claiborne has an outstanding football pedigree and enters the mix defensively at a position of need for the Tigers. Perhaps that’s why expectations are so high for White in year one.

Outside of LSU’s established number one cornerback, sophomore Jalen Mills, there are question marks about the remaining cast of characters at the position. Jalen Collins (No. 31 on our top 50) exited spring as the Tigers’ number two CB, but White figures to push the taller Collins in Fall Camp. No matter how that competition ends up, it’s almost impossible to see White dropping below the status of third corner. Given how much LSU uses nickel and dime sets (and began introducing the 3-3-5 this spring), that makes White one important newcomer.

By The Numbers

White’s highest ranking: 13th
White’s lowest ranking: 32nd

Why this ranking is too high

As with all the other true freshmen on this countdown, White is unproven on the collegiate level. Plus, at only 170 pounds, he definitely weighs in on the lighter side of most SEC-caliber cornerbacks. It is possible, with so much technique to pick up from position coach Corey Raymond and frame to add onto with strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt, that the learning curve will be too steep for White to reach his full potential in his first season on campus.

Why this ranking is too low

First-year cornerbacks can leave a mark in this league, as Mills showed a season ago. White enters 2013 with even more promise than Mills originally had, and the Green Oaks High School product can flat-out fly. He may not fit the prototypical LSU corner mold of 6-foot-2 or taller, but there’s a reason White was selected to the U.S. Army All-American Game and ranked one of the top CBs in the nation. The kid can play. Then there’s always the fact that LSU’s two-deep is begging for a fresh face at cornerback.
