No. 19 - Josh Williford
No. 19 – OG Josh Williford
The third-highest rated offensive lineman on TSD's top 50 countdown, redshirt senior Josh Williford will make a comeback and a position chance in 2013. In the sixth game of the 2012 season, Williford suffered multiple concussions on the road at Florida and was forced to miss the rest of the regular season. He did return in time to practice for the Chick-fil-A Bowl and was a full participant in practices this spring.
Of course he was at a new position. Williford, who has logged 18 starts and 30 total games played at right guard, is now at left guard for the Tigers, filling the spot vacated by La'el Collins from a season ago. The 6-foot-7, 332-pounder from Dothan, Ala., is more than capable of sliding to the other side. He's also far and away the most experienced member of the starting O-Line, which currently consists of two juniors and two sophomores.
By The Numbers
Williford's highest ranking: 9th
Williford's lowest ranking: 25th
Why this ranking is too high
Considering Williford was forced out of action for the majority of the 2012 campaign, it is possible he enters this fall with some rust. Then there's the fact that he's switching sides of the line and taking on a position he's not particularly familiar with in game play. Both of these factors mean there could be some uncertainty in how Williford bounces back and adjusts simultaneously.
Why this ranking is too low
In a word, experience. Williford has been a part of this LSU offensive and offensive line system for going on five years now. He was also a starter on the 2011 SEC Championship team, which featured one of the strongest rushing offenses in recent Tiger history. His know-how and cross-training throughout the years in practice should make the conversion to left guard a fairly simple task by the time SEC opposition comes calling.
