TSD continues its daily look inside the LSU football team with the Tigers' opener versus TCU on the horizon. Today, publisher Ben Love rolls out an updated LSU offensive depth chart, complete with extra substitution notes.

We’re just two days away from the start of a brand new LSU football season.

But before Les Miles and the Tigers invade AT&T Stadium in Arlington to battle TCU, TSD will get you ready by tackling a question a day for seven straight days surrounding the shape of LSU’s team entering the Aug. 31 opener.

PREVIOUS QUESTIONS (PREMIUM)

Saturday – Which freshmen will make an impact on defense in the opener?
Sunday – Can LSU’s new-look offensive line gel in time for kickoff?
Monday – How will LSU be different in 2013 than 2012?
Tuesday – Who will provide secondary depth and play in special packages?
Wednesday – Will the formula change for Mettenberger and LSU’s offense?

Today’s Question: What does LSU’s offensive depth chart look like?

QB: Zach Mettenberger (Sr.), Anthony Jennings (Fr.), Stephen Rivers (So.)

RB: Alfred Blue (Sr.), Kenny Hilliard (Jr.), Terrence Magee (Jr.)

FB: J.C. Copeland (Sr.), Connor Neighbors (Sr.), Melvin Jones (Fr.)

WR (X): Travin Dural (R-Fr.), Quantavius Leslie (Jr.), John Diarse (Fr.)

WR (Z): Odell Beckham (Jr.), Kadron Boone (Sr.)

WR (3): Jarvis Landry (Jr.), James Wright (Sr.)

TE: Dillon Gordon (So.), Travis Dickson (Jr.), Logan Stokes (Jr.)

LT: La’el Collins (Jr.), Evan Washington (Jr.) OR Josh Boutte (Fr.)

LG: Vadal Alexander (So.), Jonah Austin (So.)

C: Elliott Porter (Jr.), Ethan Pocic (Fr.)

RG: Trai Turner (So.), Fehoko Fanaika (Jr.)

RT: Jerald Hawkins (R-Fr.), Andy Dodd (Fr.)

NOTES

- In the RB grouping I did not list sophomore Jeremy Hill because I don’t expect him to play on Saturday night. However, if he were involved in that mix, I’d have him at either 1 or 1-A along with Alfred Blue, with both of those guys ahead of Kenny Hilliard and Terrence Magee. If and when the time comes that all four are healthy and available, it’s my belief that Blue and Hill will split the majority of the carries.

- The OL portion of the depth chart above is meant to provide a look at how two separate groups would appear (a first team and a second team) if all five players for each lined up together at practice or prior to a game. When you look at the second team, that’s not in any way how I believe LSU would actually substitute for its starters in the event of injury or anything else. As Miles confirmed Wednesday on the subject, “There will be a shuffling if we lose a guy.” He went on to say LG Vadal Alexander could easily move back out to tackle and added that freshman C Ethan Pocic is more than capable of moving out to guard, if necessary, on top of being the no-doubt backup center.

- I listed three wide receiver positions above, primarily to illustrate how the first team usually looks when LSU goes to three-wide sets. Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry are the Tigers’ undeniable one-two punch, and will frequently be in the game together in two-man sets, but both are also more likely to play in the slot or at Z when the taller Travin Dural is around to play the X position. All four additional players have a chance at seeing the field Saturday at receiver, led by senior Kadron Boone and JuCo transfer Quantavius Leslie.
