Texas pledge schedules LSU official

Texas LB commit Otaro Alaka

Texas LB commit Otaro Alaka has scheduled an official visit to LSU the weekend of Jan. 24. The three-star Houston area prospect has been committed to the Longhorns since April but he has decided to at least explore his other options.

2014 LB Otaro Alaka, a Texas commit, has scheduled an official visit to LSU for the weekend of Jan. 24.

Houston area recruiter Thomas McGaughey is leading the charge in LSU's pursuit of Alaka, which began in February 2012. The Tigers were one of many schools to jump on Alaka after his strong junior season.

But Texas was the one school that stood out and Alaka committed to the Longhorns in April. He went quiet after that, holding firm to his pledge, but as Mack Brown's seat got warmer, Alaka opened up to the idea of entertaining his other suitors.

Texas A&M was one of Alaka's top contenders before he committed to Texas. Alaka said he will take his official visit to College Station on Jan. 17.

At 6-foot-3, 210 pounds, Alaka is a speedy outside linebacker that has shown range and ability in pass coverage. LSU already has a commitment from OLB Donnie Alexander, who fits a similar mold to Alaka. LSU also has MLB Clifton Garrett in its 2014 class with John Curtis LB Kenny Young also on the big board.

Though LSU likely doesn't intend to take four linebackers, Young remains open to the possibility of leaving the state, so the Tigers would be wise to leave no stones unturned. For that reason, expect LSU to actively pursue Alaka and gauge where things stand with his commitment to Texas.
