'15 four-star Kevin Henry commits to LSU

LSU S commit Kevin Henry

LSU landed its sixth commitment for the 2015 class on Monday. Four-star safety Kevin Henry (Baton Rouge Central) made his pledge to the Tigers.

LSU picked up its sixth commitment for the 2015 class on Monday when four-star safety Kevin Henry made his pledge.

Henry ranks as the No. 17 safety in the 2015 class. The Tigers became his first SEC offer earlier this month when LSU extended him an offer. Henry didn't waste any time, committing only 17 days later.

"I think I've known for a while where I wanted to go," Henry said. "So why should I have to wait? I know where I want to go."

Henry said he grew up a LSU fan and playing close to home was the deciding factor.

"That's important to me," Henry said. "I'm a big family man. So my family being able to come watch me play is big for me."

Henry joins Kevin Toliver, the nation's No. 1 CB, and Xavier Lewis as DBs committed to the Tigers for 2015. Henry's a big, physical safety that measures in about 6-foot-1, 200 pounds.

He did a little bit of everything for his Central High football team. Henry spends a lot of his time in the box as a safety that assists in pass rush and stopping the run. But he's also shown ability in pass coverage, and often plays as a corner as well.

Henry played a large part in leading Central to a 9-1 regular season record and a quarterfinal appearance in the Class 5A playoffs.

He said LSU intends to use him in a similar fashion as a safety that plays in the box.

That's a big pickup for the 2015 class, but the 2014 class is still in full swing. LSU hosted a major weekend of official visits and now appear poised for a big haul on NSD. One prospect that could commit then is Trey Lealaimatafao, who has LSU as one of two finalists.
