He pushed back to safety, accommodating Tiger injuries, at the tail end of the 2013 season and will now remain at the position heading into the fall of 2014.
After Saturday's spring game, Mills discussed how his spring of transition went as well as the play of teammate Rickey Jefferson and how the new-look defensive line is coming along.
All that and more below in TSD's HD video, followed by a full transcript of the interview.
Ben Love: You've had a whole spring now just at safety. What are your thoughts on how the transition has gone?
Jalen Mills: It's been going very good. I know the defense kinda in and out right now. I've still got some learning to do, but it's been going pretty good.
BL: What did today's spring game teach you that maybe you didn't know about this defense?
JM: We're faster than I thought we were. I knew we were a fast defense, but the linebackers got speed, the D-Line's got speed and the DBs were covering.
BL: No Ronald Martin today, so Rickey Jefferson was back there with you. How do you think he played?
JM: Rickey did pretty good. He was tackling great, and I thought he covered well.
BL: You got to look at both of those quarterbacks all spring long. What do you think about how they played not only today but all spring?
JM: It's going to be a battle come toward August.
BL: Do you have any expectations for that front four and how the D-Line is coming along?
JM: They know just like I know the standard set at that D-Line. That standard can't be broken. They have to rise above it. I think they will and they'll meet the challenge.
