Matt Womack commits to LSU

LSU picked up a commitment Sunday from Matt Womack, a 6-foot-7, 325-pound offensive tackle from Mississippi.

2015 offensive tackle Matt Womack committed to LSU on Sunday while on campus for an unofficial visit.

Womack ranks as the No. 56 offensive tackle in the country, a three-star prospect. Womack picked up his offer in June after a standout performance at the Tigers' camp. LSU were one of his favorites over the last month, and he ultimately chose the Tigers over Ole Miss.

Womack said he didn't plan to commit during this visit, as the Tigers and Rebels were very close in his recruitment. But that all changed once he got to spend some quality time with the team.

"Just getting to know the coaches and players is what made me ready," Womack said. "Coach Miles and Coach Grimes are great people to be around. They made me feel at home."

The Hernando, Miss., native becomes the Tigers' first offensive tackle commit in the 2015 class, and the third linemen, joining Franklinton's Adrian Magee and Maea Teuhema.

Womack's also the first high school commitment reeled in by new offensive line coach Jeff Grimes, who was also the lead recruiter for JUCO OT Jevonte Domond.

Womack's a big get for the Tigers as they desperately need offensive tackles in this class. He's also big in the literal sense, measuring about 6-foot-7, 325 pounds.

The Tigers' class now stands at 14 commits, and Womack is the first recruit to make his pledge since Xavier Lewis recommitted at The Opening earlier this month.

Womack projects as a right tackle on the next level. Domond is expected to replace Jerald Hawkins at that position, though Womack plans to enroll early with hopes of competing for that spot when it becomes available.

Womack plans to enroll early.

"I want to play at a high level and there is no better place than LSU," Womack said. "Coach Miles said he could see me playing as a true freshman at right tackle. He said I was an elite player."
