LSU got a huge commitment this past Friday from one of the nation's most sought after defensive linemen - Al Woods from Elton, Louisiana.

For Al Woods he thought he wanted to leave the Bayou State to play his college football. The 6-4 and 327 pound defensive tackle from Elton (La.) wanted to attend Southern Cal or Oklahoma. Woods made the suggestion to his parents and together they came away with a different idea and an early decision.

"I told them (parents) I was thinking of playing football at OU or USC," said Woods. "I mean I was seriously thinking about it and that that was the best decision for me. Then, after talking about it with them I realized that those schools are far away and long plane trips. I realized I couldn't go too far from home and had to stay close. LSU made the most sense to me. I love coach (Les) Miles and coach (Carl) Dunbar. So I committed to LSU this past Friday. It's exciting because it's done and now I can focus on my senior year."

Woods is one of the nation's top defensive tackle prospects. He currently has scholarship offers from LSU, USC, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Miami, Ole Miss, Clemson and other college football powers. Last season Woods recorded over 100 tackles and three sacks. He is physically strong, bench pressing 415, squatting 600 and power cleaning 315 pounds. According to Woods he carries a 2.6 core grade point average and has already scored a 14 ACT and is awaiting the results of a second ACT test.

"I am the type of player that never gives up because I chase the football where ever it goes. I am gonna get you. I also play with a real positive attitude."

Woods is LSU's fifth commitment of this young recruiting season.
