Waiting to find his #1

Tyler Graves

LSU head coach Les Miles and recruiting coordinator Josh Henson have registered a ton of frequent flyer miles trying to find blue-chip offensive linemen for the 2006 class.

Miles and Henson traveled all over the country during the May evaluation period in search of big men and they stumbled across one in Tyler Graves from Sumrall, Miss.

The 6-6, 290-pounder is considered a sleeper prospect by many but he landed a surprise offer from the Tigers back in May.

Graves heard from the LSU coaches over the summer but it had been about six weeks since he heard from anyone on the staff.

Telephone communications has been a hit and miss along the Gulf Coast since Hurricane Katrina ravaged the area but last week Graves finally made contact with the LSU coaches.

"I talked to coach Henson after the Tennessee game," Graves said. "He said they have been focusing on winning some games and getting their season going but that they are still recruiting me."

Graves said it was good to hear that he was still wanted but he needed to know that his offer was still on the table.

"Coach Henson said they are looking for a lot of offensive linemen but they really need offensive tackles," said Graves. "I know they are recruiting me as an offensive guard so I just came out and asked him if he was still serious about me. He said they were still serious about me and that I still had an offer."

Southern Miss is the only other school to offer but several schools have been in contact with Graves during the month of September including Nebraska, Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt.

He is in the process of setting some official visits and LSU will likely be one of his stops.

At one time LSU was his leader but now the Tigers have a little catching up to do.

"I still like LSU but I don't know if I'd make them my No. 1 choice because I hadn't heard from them in a while," he said. "I really don't have one school that I would call my leader because I need to see who is really serious about me."
