The big question of the day is did Anthony Morgan commit to LSU on Thursday?
News broke early that afternoon that LSU picked up a surprise pledge as Lancaster (Texas) offensive guard Anthony Morgan decided to commit to the Tigers over offers from Alabama, Florida, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Baylor, Arizona, TCU and Oklahoma State.
After speaking with one of Morgan's coaches and also with his father we received two different stories.
Early on Friday afternoon we spoke to Anthony himself to see if he did indeed commit to the Tigers.
"No sir I didn't," Morgan said in response to whether or not he committed to LSU.
Morgan said that Lancaster assistant coach Cliff Keeling must have misunderstood some things he said and that is where the confusion was.
"What happened was coach Monken from LSU said that they would offer real soon and I got real happy," explained Morgan." I talked to some of our players and coaches and they asked if I wanted to go to LSU and I said I would if it came down to it because I really like LSU but I'm just not ready to commit yet."
Morgan said that he is not under the impression that he has an offer from the Tigers but feels like one could be coming soon.
"Coach said he wants to get my transcripts to see if I'm eligible and he is going to send the offensive line coach (Stacey Searels) down soon to check me out," said Morgan, who claims a 2.5 GPA and an 880 on the SAT. "Coach Monken didn't tell me personally that I had an offer but everything sounded pretty good and that I will soon."
So through all of the confusion where does LSU stand in the Anthony Morgan sweepstakes?
"I'm real interested in LSU," he said. "They are one of my top schools with Notre Dame and Miami."
