Walker, who was named All Conference this season and awaits additional award announcements, will get a chance to talk to coaches from Tennessee soon, as he has scheduled his first official visit with the Volunteers next week.
"I want to talk to their players," he said of the Tennessee program. "I like the coaches, and I want to get the know some of the players, as well as the area around the school"
Walker said the coaches were one of the biggest things he liked about Tennessee, and that being a Tennessee native has made him familiar with the program.
As for the Tigers?
"I really like LSU's defense," he said. "They build their defense around speed, which is something coaches say they like about me. I would fit into that program well."
Walker's last contact with the LSU coaching staff came last weekend, when he was visited by LSU running back coach Larry Porter, and linebacker coach Bradley Dale Peveto, a meeting Walker says went very well.
"Coach Porter has been in charge of recruiting me," he said, "and coach Peveto came with him for the visit on Sunday. I feel like I'm getting to know them as people, not just coaches. Coach Porter has been a really nice guy, and has talked to me about more than football."
Walker also added that he has gotten the opportunity to talk to head coach Les Miles on several occasions, and was on hand for LSU's victory over Arizona earlier this season.
He has scheduled an official visit to Baton Rouge for the third weekend in January .
One of the big factors surrounding Walker's decision, he says, will be the city and the people around the school.
"When you go to college," he says, "you're going to be spending some time off campus. I want to be interested in the town, and happy with the people there. That's important."
He also said that how soon he could see playing time is not really an issue right now, because he feels like that is something that is up to him.
"Playing time will take care of itself," he said. "It's all up to me to work hard and earn time. I don't want to red shirt."
Walker has not put any time frame on when his decision will be made, and says he is not going to rush it because he wants to be sure he is happy with whatever school he chooses.
As for know, he will be playing power forward for the Christian Brothers basketball team, and then hitting the weight room to get ready for the next step of his football career.
