LSU coaches have Edwards interested

The LSU staff has been putting in a lot of time and effort on Baylor commitment Lonnie Edwards and all of that work has paid off as the 4-star offensive guard has set up an official visit to check out LSU.

The 6-4, 315-pound Brownsboro (Texas) product may have already given a verbal commitment to the Bears back in May, but he is going to make sure he makes the right decision.

Therefore, he is taking an official visit to LSU on Jan. 12.

Edwards said he averaged somewhere between eight and 12 pancake blocks per game during his senior season.

When he made a verbal commitment to Baylor during the spring the Bears were the only school recruiting him heavily, but since then others have started talking to him more, and he wants to take a look at his other options.

"When I committed, I wasn't getting much attention from other schools," Edwards explained. "Now I want to weigh my options with other schools and see where I'll fit in best. I still have a lot of time to decide."

The schools Edwards is looking at, he said, include LSU, Texas Tech, Oklahoma State and Baylor.

"Those four are places I could fit in," he said. "I visited Texas Tech officially two weeks ago. It was nice. I got to meet some new people. I also have a visit to LSU scheduled for January 12."

"I just want to make sure, you know?" said Edwards. "LSU has really been giving me a lot of attention lately so I figured I'd at least come down and take a visit. I really need to take advantage of these types of opportunities."

Edwards also said he has developed a healthy relationship with LSU wide receivers coach Todd Monken offensive line coach Stacey Searels.

"They just seem like a really great group of guys," he said. "Just talking with them and being around them and seeing what they have to offer is great. Once you really get to know them you feel like they are just normal guys."

Monken and Searels made an in-home visit with the Edwards family last Sunday and he said that talked in great depth about what they liked in him and what they had to offer.

"We talked about the depth chart and basically the best players are going to play," said Edwards. "They said they have some guys leaving and that will open up some slots for guys like me to come in and possibly get some early playing time.

"They said they like my meanness, quickness and the fact that I'm willing and able to overpower my opponent. They like the way I play and my ability to just flat out drive people out."

While Edwards may have some things on his mind as to where he will end up he definitely knows what factors will lead to his final decision.

"It's somewhere I am going to be for four or five years," he said. "So, I want to be comfortable and be able to relate to other players."
