It was an historic day for the LSU Tigers on Saturday.
The buzz heading into Saturday's NFL Draft was
LSU
was expected to place three players in the first round, tying the most ever first round picks for LSU with a trio taken in the 1951 draft.
Saturday, LSU re-wrote that record when the Tigers capped off an exciting day with Dwayne Bowe and
Craig Davis
were taken 23rd and 30th respectively giving LSU four first rounders.
Bowe, a 6-2, 218-pound wideout from
Miami
, was chosen with the 23rd pick of the first round by the
Kansas City Chiefs
. Bowe was the 3rd wide reciever taken in the draft behind
Georgia Tech
's
Calvin Johnson
(2nd-Detroit) and
Ohio State
's
Ted Ginn
Jr. (9th-Miami).
Craig Davis
Davis, a 6-1, 207-pound receiver from New Orleans, was the fifth wide receiver taken in the draft with the 30th pick by the
San Diego Chargers
. Tennessee's
Robert Meachem
was the fourth wideout taken with the 27th pick by New Orleans.
It was only the third time in NFL Draft history that a pair of wide reeivers from the same team each were drafted in the first round. They are listed here:
97
Florida
Ike Hilliard
– Giants - 7 Reidel Anthony – Bucs – 16
01 Miami
Santana Moss
– Jets – 16
Reggie Wayne
– Colts – 30
07 LSU Dwayne Bowe – Chiefs – 23 Craig Davis – Chargers – 30
Ironically, Bowe and Davis will square off against one another next year in divisional play. Both Kansas City and San Diego are in the AFC West.
