Tigers join the Painter sweepstakes

Tigers are in hot pursuit of Painter

Vinston Painter is one of the most sought-after linemen in high school and one of the top offensive tackles on LSU's board.

The 6-6, 310-pounder earned all-region, all-district and all-state honors last season for Maury High School in Norfolk, Va.

Heading into his senior season, Painter will be a three-year starter that occupied right tackle as a freshman and spent the last two years on the left side.

So far, the 4-star prospect has received 50 offers and recently received one from LSU after wide receivers coach D.J. McCarthy paid a visit to his school.

"I was glad to see them (LSU) there," said Painter. "I think it gave them a chance to see what I can do in person and I feel pretty good about that."

Other than that contact, Painter has been talking with McCarthy on a pretty consistent basis.

"I actually talked with him Sunday and he was just talking about the school and the program they have at LSU," said Painter. "We talked about the type of offense they run there and how they use their offensive linemen. Coach Mac seems like a good, down-to-earth guy and I'm going to take a good look at what LSU can offer."

With three trips under his belt already, Painter said he hasn't scheduled any other unofficial visits yet this summer, but did say that he plans to attend the Michael Vick Camp in June.

When choosing a college, Painter said he will mostly be looking for football related things when he chooses a college.

"The coaching staff will play big part in my decision," Painter said. "I'll also look for a healthy balance between school and football."
