Smith Puts Recruiting On Hold

Recruiting takes a back seat for now

TigerRag.com recently caught up with John Curtis Christian High School's standout safety P.J. Smith (6'4, 190, 4.6). Smith discussed the early stages of his senior season as well as his new change of plans with the recruiting scene.

"We played Fountainbleau High School in our jamboree," Smith said. "I did ok. I had 6 tackles and a forced fumble on defense. On offense I had a reception for like 25-30 yards. We won the game 22-0. This upcoming week we play Mandeville High School."

The last time TigerRag.com spoke with Smith he listed LSU and Alabama as his top 2 schools and he also planned on possibly making his decision at the early part of his senior season.

Has anything changed since then?

"As far as my top teams go, I do not know," Smith stated. "I am really trying to stay away from the recruiting scene and just try to enjoy my senior year instead. I think talking about the colleges and stuff like that may be a distraction right now and I do not want it to affect my team any.

"I'll start talking about it again and also make my decision once my senior season is over," Smith added. "I really just want to focus on playing well, staying healthy and doing good in school and that's it."

Previously, Smith had also informed TigerRag.com he planned on making official visits to Death Valley as well as to Alabama.

"Yes, I am still going to attend the LSU vs. Alabama game as well as the LSU vs. Florida game," Smith informed. "I'll probably make it to a few other LSU games too.

"On those visits though, I am going to try and take it easy. I want to go for the experience. I'm sure I'll talk to the coaches a little but I do not want to be swamped with the recruiting talk."

Note: Last season, P.J. Smith tallied 28 tackles, 4 interceptions, and broke up 14 passes. As a receiver he caught 10 passes for 124 yards and 3 touchdowns.
