Playing Time On Harris' Mind

Brandon Harris

TigerRag.com recently caught up with one of the most sought after recruits in high school football. Brandon Harris (5'10, 175, 4.45) out of Booker T. Washington High School denies a leader, but says that has only gotten things busier.

"Recruiting has really picked up lately," said Harris. "I do not have a leader and that may be the reason why. I talk to coaches from everywhere.

"As far as LSU, I speak with coach [Earl] Lane and [Doug] Mallory the most," Harris added. "They've really been trying to sell LSU's program to me, but I do not feel pressured by that in any way. They basically talk schemes to me and are straight up with me. They told me two corner backs will be leaving after this season and so early playing time will be there for me if I choose to go there."

Playing time is a factor for Harris, but that is not his biggest concern with LSU.

"My biggest concern with LSU is if coach [Les] Miles is leaving or not," Harris stated. "I spoke to him on my visit for the Florida game and I asked him about that back then and he said he was not leaving. If he would leave I am sure LSU would replace him with a good coach. The only problem with that is you never know if that coach will still hold the scholarship offer for you or not.

"I have mixed feelings about the whole situation though," Harris continued. "In a way I think coach Miles should keep it a secret until the season is over because that could possibly be a distraction for the team. On the other hand though keeping it a secret would not be fair to the recruits for this season. I think they deserve to know if the coach recruiting them will be there or not. I understand that the players are the ones that have to play, but the head coach is the one that prepares them and he plays a major role in their college football careers."

If coach Miles were to leave and LSU was still looking for a coach around signing day would Harris take a chance on LSU?

"No because for me the head coach is a big deal," Harris answered. "I would have to know who the coach was because that would be too big of a risk for my future. Taking a chance would not be worth it."

Although Harris does not have a leader, does the Miami product have some favorites?

"I do not have a leader," said Harris. "I do know where my next visits might be though. I've already been to LSU and Florida and I think there is like a 50% chance that my next 2 visits will be to Miami and Ohio St. I am not sure where my fifth and final visit will be to yet. I guess you could say I am considering those schools along with Central Florida.

"I will wait until signing day to announce," Harris informed. "Right now I am not really looking for anything in particular. I am still just breaking down teams and school's academic programs."
