It has been confirmed by two different sources early Friday morning that LSU basketball coach John Brady was fired Thursday night.

Brady reportedly left practice early on Thursday afternoon in a move described as he was going to take care of some personal business.

Turns out, it would be the last time he would be his last practice as LSU's head coach.

LSU's 11th year head coach was reportedly fired last night by LSU athletic director Skip Bertman. The Tigers are currently 8-13 on the season and fell to 1-6 in SEC action with a loss at Alabama last Saturday.

A 1 p.m. press conference to has been called "regarding the LSU men’s basketball program," so says a university release received at 9:55 a.m. CST.

Early indications are that Brady will be allowed to coach the Tigers in Saturday's game against No. 4 Tennessee, but that longtime assistant coach Butch Pierre will likely guide the team through the remainder of the season.

Brady has been under fire as his young team, which was beset by injuries, dropped eight games in a row, five straight to open SEC play. After reaching the NCAA Final Four in 2006, the Tigers dropped to 17-11 a year ago with a dismal 5-11 record in SEC play. It appears LSU is headed to a finish worse than that in 2008.

TigerRag.com will pass along more details as they are made available.
