The Lonestar State is always loaded with top-notch talent and another member of Texas' 2009 class, Pflugerville defensive end Alex Okafor, is one of LSU's top targets.

As a junior, Okafor (6-5, 230) recorded 72 tackles and 7 sacks, helping Pflugerville to the Texas 5A Division 2 state championship game.

Scout.com’s 3rd ranked defensive end in the country has received offers from LSU, Texas, Stanford, Auburn, Oklahoma, Boston College, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Nebraska but Okafor has already narrowed his list down to three in LSU, Stanford and Texas .

"I pretty much told all the other coaches that it was just those three," he said.

While he is attracted to the academic prestige of Stanford and the proximity of Texas to his home, Okafor said it is the winning tradition that makes LSU appealing.

"LSU is just all about winning, and they were always a childhood favorite," he said. "Plus my cousin [former LSU linebacker Eric Alexander] went there so it'd be nice to continue the pipeline."

Okafor said he keeps in touch with coaches from the three schools on his short list on a regular basis and he talks to coaches from LSU, Stanford and Texas "about once a week."

The 4-star defensive end has already visited all three schools this spring with a visit to Texas on February 10 and then a trip to LSU's Junior Day. He finished up just two weeks ago at Stanford's Junior Day on March 1 and after all of the visits he said not much has changed.

"There hasn't been a big change since then," Okafor said. "I'm just
day-to-day right now."
