A long process

Abilene High School linebacker Chris Williams (6-1, 212, 4.65) is accumulating interest and offers from schools all over. As the spring moves along the offers continue to roll in including one from LSU.

Williams made 90 tackles, 30 for loss, had 15 sacks, forced three fumbles and recovered one during his junior campaign.

He helped Abilene to the Texas 5A state semifinals and was named the AP 5A Defensive Player of the Year for his efforts on the gridiron.

His efforts have not gone unnoticed on the recruiting trail this spring, either, especially in Big XII country.

So far, Williams has offers from Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Nebraska, and Missouri to go along with his offers from TCU, LSU, and Tennessee.

Despite the long list, though, the nation’s 16th ranked middle linebacker says he hasn't really gotten into deciding who he'll play for.

"It's already been a long process," he said. "Texas Tech offered me after the first game of last season, but there isn't really a favorite or a top three. I just need to talk to my mom and figure out what the best fit is."

With offers coming in from across the country and all over Texas, Williams had nothing but praise for the defending BCS national champs.

"Location doesn't bother me,” Williams said when talking about leaving the state. “It's obviously a big factor that LSU was the last team playing last season. They're a good team and they always have a strong defense."

Williams has not visited any of the schools that have offered him scholarships but plans to as his senior season gets closer.

"I'll take a trip to LSU for sure," he said. "And I'll probably go take a look at Texas after that. We'll see what happens then."

Whichever school he signs with, Williams made it clear he isn't worried about the level of exposure he will get.

"If you're really good people will see you everywhere, not just in one stadium," he said.
