"I will not commit anytime before the summer but I will commit to the school I choose before my (senior) season starts so I can focus on my season," Loston said.
Loston took an unofficial visit to Clemson last weekend and that trip answered a lot of questions that the 5-star safety had.
"Right now, I think I'm leaning on the edge to Clemson after my recent visit," he said. "I think I'm leaning right there until I make my other visits and see how they go."
The Houston (Texas) Eisenhower product has five schools that he wants to visit before making a decision but if he can't get them all in he doesn't plan to push back his timeframe for making a decision.
"I'm going to take one (visit) to USC, Oregon, LSU and Miami," he said. "I'm going to try and get them in this summer but if I can't then I'm going to go with the schools that I did visit or that I have visited and then go with one of them. I'll then try and visit the ones I couldn't get to during my season."
What is it that Loston sees in each one of those schools that has them under consideration?
Clemson—"When I was up there I felt at home and felt comfortable and all. I had a real good time and I learned a lot about the academics and saw how good they were. I just really felt at home and that is what it is really about when you choose a school."
LSU—"They are high class and I love how their defense is full of hard hitters. They are a great team and they have great facilities. I kind of like the class the coaches and players have too. I've only been to camp so I can't make my decision until I go there on a visit."
USC—"I have a great relationship with Ken Norton and he is doing a good job recruiting me. I talked to him the other day on the phone and we are setting up a visit for when I can get out there."
Miami—"They have a great tradition for putting safeties in the league and that is what I look at. I need to look at the history of the school and see how I fit in if I went there."
Oregon—"It's just a great place with nice scenery and I heard they have great facilities. I don't know a lot about the school but I'm looking into it right now."
One of these schools may get lucky and land Loston and if one does it will get one of the top safeties to come out of Texas in quite some time.
Note: Craig Loston was at the UnderArmour/Scout.com Combine in Dallas on April 19 and he was phenomenal. He has the body of a linebacker at 6-2, 195 pounds but he has the feet and moves like someone much smaller. Loston is an ideal free safety as he has great range and is quick in his backpedal with very good acceleration going forward. He can stop and break on the ball as good as most corners and he has excellent hips and change-of-direction skills. Although we didn't see him deliver any hits all you have to do is watch his film and you will see that the kid loves to lay the wood on the opposition.
Rumors were running rampant last week that Craig Loston was planning on making a decision on his college future and fans from several schools were up in arms over the alleged news. The nation's top ranked safety cleared the air on those issues and also provided some insight into where he currently stands in the recruiting process.
