LSU facilities suffer damage

Posted Sep 3, 2008

A number of LSU athletics facilities incurred damage as a result of Hurricane Gustav. As LSU officials continue to assess the damage and the overall impact of the storm, no decision has been rendered about Saturday’s scheduled football game between LSU and Troy, but one is expected to come today according to our sources.

Tiger Stadium was hit hardest on the west side of the stadium, losing awnings over Stadium Club seating as well as significant glass damage within the structure.  There is also a considerable amount of debris in the stands and on the playing field and the fence surrounding the field was damaged.  In addition, there is some damage to the north scoreboard.

A full assessment of potential electrical damage is still pending the restoration of power to Tiger Stadium and other athletic facilities.

The athletic administration building incurred damage to its roof and flooding on the first floor, the LSU Natatorium and the Carl Maddox Field House incurred considerable damage to roofing, the Dub Robinson Tennis Stadium suffered fence damage, the Charles McClendon Practice Facility lost the privacy fence around the practice fields and there is damage to the roof of the indoor football practice facility.

The LSU Soccer Complex took a hard hit, losing the press box atop the stands along with fence damage and scoreboard damage.  The new softball stadium construction project received damage to the roof of the team meeting area.  There was minimal impact on the new baseball stadium construction project.
