Randall tore an ACL in the spring game and is not expected to be available until mid-September at the earliest. Before his injury, Randall was making great progress and was battling closing the gap between himself at No. 1 quarterback Matt Mauck. Although known as a good improviser out of the pocket, he was establishing himself as a good passer.
As a redshirt freshman, Randall saw action in two games for the Tigers in 2001 - vs. Tulane and Mississippi State. He rushed for 7 yards vs. Tulane and was 2-of-2 passing for 7 yards. In mop-up duty against Mississippi State, Randall did not record any statistics.
