| Updated 03/27/03 2002 Season: Despite injuries to Kelly Holcomb and Tim Couch at various points during the season, Booty did not see any action during the regular season, although he was on the active roster for four games (and inactive for the rest). After the season, the Browns signed Pat Barnes to challenge for the third QB role.
2002 Pre-Season Analysis: When Seattle's Mike Holmgren tried to sneak rookie quarterback Josh Booty onto his practice squad in September 2001, the Browns snapped him up in a heartbeat. The thinking at the time was that Davis would keep Booty just long enough to interrogate him on Mike Holmgren's offensive game plan. Instead, Booty has remained on the roster as the #3 quarterback.
A talented passer out of LSU, Booty was drafted in the sixth round of the 2001 draft by the Seahawks. He played just two years at LSU, yet finished sixth in school history with 3,951 total yards passing and seventh with 24 touchdowns. At 6' 2" and 217 pounds, Booty is a mobile quarterback with a good arm. Browns coaches have been impressed by the young QB's progress and expect him to challenge Kelly Holcomb for the second-string.
Like fellow second-year player Andre King, Josh Booty took time off to play baseball. In five years in the Marlins organization, he appeared in 13 big league games and had seven hits and nine strikeouts in 26 at bats.
Contract Status:
Based on figures from the NFLPA, Booty will earn the third-year minimum of $389,000 in 2003. He is not signed for 2004. |
