Pro
Returns to the familiar role as the backup to the indestructible Brett
Favre. Last year he appeared in all 16 regular-season games, plus both
playoff contests, mainly as the holder for FG and PAT placements. He beat out
veteran Billy Joe Tolliver in training camp last year to win the job as
Favre's understudy. Pederson was a starter with the Philadelphia Eagles (1999) and Cleveland Browns (2000). He previously was a backup quarterback for the Packers for
parts of four seasons (1995-98), a span during which he was a member of Green
Bay's back-to-back Super Bowl teams (1996-97), he re-joined the Packers as a
free agent, signing March 13, 2001, following his termination by the Browns.
He had been Green Bay's No. 2 quarterback in 1998 after two full seasons
(1996-97) and part of a third (1995) as the team's No. 3 signal-caller.
Pederson moved on to Philadelphia in 1999, becoming the Eagles' starting
quarterback for nine games under his one-time position coach in Green Bay,
Andy Reid, before yielding to rookie signal-caller Donovan McNabb, the team's
first-round draft choice. He subsequently signed on with Cleveland as a free
agent in 2000 and started eight contests for the Browns after Tim Couch was
sidelined for the season with a fractured thumb on his throwing hand.
